Wi-fi in Rome
November 27th, 2008 by alisonI have gone through so much effort to get the internet to work in my hostel room over the past couple days. I have sat in every corner and positioned my computer at every angle but the signal always disapears. Imagine all the skype calls I could make in the privacy of my empty room! Instead I have to sit in the hallway right outside my door (there is no common room) to use the wi-fi. In a way it is good because, not wanting to sit in the hallway for long, I become more efficiant. I made a list of everything I needed to do, wrote out emails in advance and then fired everything off with a quick step out the door. I also loaded pages that I wanted to read so I could lie in bed curled up with all the blogs and news I have neglected over the past few weeks/months. I placed my computer on a chair and got ready for bed. And then, as I leaned over to grab my computer, almost ready for sleep, I noticed something in the upper right hand corner…it still had a signal. Without touching the computer it fades in and out from 5 bars to 1 bar to 3 bars to 5 to 1 and so on, but it’s sticking. I’m afraid that any suddent movement will cause it to disapear. This blog entry has no point other that to take advantage of this miracle and to provide you with the peculiar image of me, in a hostel in Rome, alone in a dorm room made for 3 people, leaning over a chair, loud club music from next door seeping through the walls, cautiously updating this blog and watching the wi-fi signal swing up and down like the tide.
